The location of Colonia Santa Fé makes it an important microcosm for building efforts and awareness around the importance of protecting the environment. From an early age we seek to build the ecological awareness that is so necessary to achieve positive results in the fight against climate change. Our aim is to become a model that can be replicated in other similar locations that have a polluting impact on the watersheds of Lake Amatitlán. That is why we are developing an educational program with a strong hands-on component which, with the support and participation of the mothers, fathers and neighbors of the area, began work in June 2022. It covers topics such as public cleanliness, waste collection and management, recycling, and campaigns against the use of styrofoam and some types of single-use plastic. We have also started workshops on Home Gardening, using recovered materials and plastic containers.
